How Do You See America Today?

I live here for 16 years and I am an American Citizen since 1999.

After "all" this years, how do I see the United States of America today?

Strong, as it has been in the last two centuries. America was born for greatness, the pilgrims had a vision to make this country the land of Justice and Freedom for All. They had strong values based in their religious views.

Of course freedom gave place to the greedy ones, in their expansion entire tribes were decimated, then came the human traffic, slavery. But the religious flame burst again, the great awakenings, bringing back our strong values.

The Industrial Revolution gave the opportunity for the American people to use their ingenuity and hard work to become the most powerful nation on earth. Millions of immigrants came to this country they were assimilated and today even with our diversity, Americans sworn the same motto: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands: one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

When I first came to visit NC in 1991 I was astound seen newspaper stands where anyone could insert a coin and take "one" newspaper. In many nations that was unheard. When I saw cars stopping to pedestrians...two or three church buildings in the same block, jobs opportunities everywhere then I decided, if I could, that was the place I would live the rest of my life.

America has a strong inheritance of character. It is built in our culture, we expect people to be good and act rightly because we expect that from ourselves. Many times I have heard the expression what is wrong with America. Nothing is "wrong", it is just the development of a nation , now, where we want to go depend on the decision of each American.

Do we want a prosperous nation with justice and freedom for all? then look deep inside in the values the forefathers passed on. Hard work, goodness to all and walk under the rule of the law. That mean, vote in who share those values and require it from one another.

The founders of this nation got their values from their religious view, from the bible, the Congress' library still have a plaque "And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8

I see America today as a strong nation facing a recession caused by a greedy Wall Street, at the end we learn one more time, keep our values under God's guidance and we will be stronger than never before. Leave God's true values out of the equation and we will have more crisis and the weakening of our nation.

Real Estate Better Than Gold.

Real Estate was my choice for two reasons.

1. I hate to pay rent if I can be the owner. I came to USA in October 31, 1993. By December 1996 I bought my home, it was so easy that I decided to help everyone of my friends to have their own home. I was lucky enough to close 700 homes since we start Lacerda Realty Inc. in October 1998.

2. It is the best investment ever. If you buy smart, I say: smart, in few years you may have your house paid in full. Then, no rent, no mortgage ever. Then if you have an extra 5 or 10% to put down in a second home you can start building your retirement.

That is what I did.

First, create credit. In 1994, a wise investor told me to create credit. I opened a secured credit card in a local bank, then I bought a computer with the credit card and paid the minimum required always on time. Soon I was able to open others accounts. I kept 3 accounts opened paying on time. My credit always was excellent.

I bought my home FHA with 3% down (today is 3.5%) paying monthly the same as my rent.

I took class for Real Estate in 1997 and as a Realtors® with the extra money I bought the second home, at that time I gave 5% down and the rent is paying the house and leave a small income for repairs, vacancies etc.

Because I bought a foreclosure for the half of the price, I could refinance it and use the equity (difference between what I owed and the appraisal value) and bought a third home in cash.

It doesn't take long to built up a cash flow that no gold, bonds, or retirement plan can compare. The secret: smart buying.
Today I have helped a dozen of customers to diversify their portfolio buying income properties. Even in a small town, where rents average $500 dollars, at least for myself from a Investment/Return point of view Real Estate is better than gold.
